JHS Athletes and Parents: One additional item I wanted to share with you in regards to the recruiting process. When college coaches come to visit and get information for their decision making. They are not asking coaches or counselors about your athletic ability or stats, they already have that information. The questions they are asking us are: 1) Are you coachable? 2) How do you handle adversity and setbacks? 3) How are you with your teammates(are you a team player) 4) How are you in the classroom? 5) How are you in the school hallways and community? 6) How are you in practice? 7) These college coaches are asking us about things that they cant see in game film, highlights, and state sheets. They want to know about you, your character, your work ethic. THEY WANT THE BIG PICTURE OF YOU SINCE THEY ARE LOOKING TO INVEST A LOT OF TIME AND MONEY BY BRINGING YOU INTO THEIR TEAM. TAKE CARE OF THE LITTLE THINGS BECAUSE THEY ARE THE BIG THINGS

JHS Student Athletes and Parents: I wanted to share out the information I presented last night in the athletic meetings in case you missed any of the information. College Coaches want you as a student athlete eligible to receive academic scholarships. Full- Ride athletic scholarships are almost non-existent. Coaches have limited number of athletic scholarships to award so they try to divide one scholarship between multiple athletes. NCAA Division 3 does not award athletic scholarships. How do you get in position to get academic scholarships: a. Test scores (ACT or SAT)—Get them as high as possible. Take advantage of ACT Prep to raise score. See Mr. Moses for ACT prep options b. GPA—Take care of business in the classroom. Get good grades, higher GPA allows for academic scholarships c. Service—Be involved d. Leadership—Be involved e. Senior year apply to colleges interested in and colleges that are recruiting prior to their scholarship deadline If you are in 8, 9, 10 or 11 grade apply for Oklahoma’s Promise at www.okpromise.org If you are eligible financially apply!!!! It is better to have it and not use it than need it and not have it When Oklahoma College Coaches come to JHS the first question they ask about a potential recruit is if they are on Oklahoma’s Promise. In the last few years they only sport at some schools that has left scholarship money unused is Women’s Golf. Finally never pay anyone to get your student athlete scholarships. This would include those various recruiting services. These entities are going to charge a lot of money to provide same service you can get from your high school coaches and high school counselor. If you need more information or have any questions, please reach out to Mr. Moses.

Today our Leadership class traveled to the Regional Food Bank to volunteer. In 2.5 hours the kiddos packed 673 boxes which of bread which equates to 7,291 meals! We are so very proud of the work these students have not only done today, but throughout the whole school year. They have “lead by example” and demonstrated what it truly means to be a longhorn! It is always a great day to be a LONGHORN!!! #regionalfoodbank #JHSleadership #leadbyexampe #servantleader #TTHL
