JHS 9-12 students: Greetings from Southwestern Oklahoma State University College of Pharmacy! We wanted to let you know about an exciting opportunity for your 9th-12th grade students. We will be hosting an event called PharmCORP on Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. on our campus in Weatherford, OK. Lunch will be provided. This program is designed to demonstrate the various aspects of pharmacy with hands-on workshops conducted by faculty and students at the College of Pharmacy. There will be a $25 non-refundable registration fee to help cover the costs associated with the program. There is a 75-student limit and it is first-come, first-served. Students can find more information and register online at https://www.swosu.edu/about/pre-college-programs/pharmcorp/index.php. The registration deadline is September 11, 2023. Students will be notified of their acceptance for PharmCORP by e-mail, and an information packet will be sent to them by e-mail as well. Attached to this email is a flyer that can be used for publicity for this event. We would appreciate it if you would share this information with all of your students and encourage them to apply. Given the nationwide shortage of both pharmacists and pharmacy students, this is a great time to consider the profession. Our goal is to educate high school students about our program and the many exciting opportunities currently available to graduates with a pharmacy degree. JHS Juniors and Seniors interested in the field of Criminal Justice: The University of Central Oklahoma is hosting its annual CJ Day on Friday, October 6th from 10:00 am- 2:30 pm. Criminal Justice agencies are invited to bring recruitment materials to hand out to prospective and current students of criminal justice. Of course, many of our partners will also bring their police cars, boats, helicopters, etc. to showcase. Lunch is provided to all participants. JHS Sophomores and Juniors: See information below about a phenomenal Leadership opportunity with the Rotary Youth Leadership Award: We would like to invite sophomores or juniors to apply for the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA). If selected, students will receive a full paid scholarship to attend RYLA's Leadership Development Retreat Oct. 2nd - Oct 8th. RYLA provides opportunities for students to develop "Power Skills" through interactive programming both virtual and in person that can transfer back into their lives in high school and beyond. Please send this application out to any students that have shown leadership potential, or just need a little nudge to become a leader in their community. About The Nike HSI Scholarship Program is designed to empower young leaders who currently attend a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). An HSI is an institution of higher education with an undergraduate student enrollment that is at least 25 percent Hispanic. Please reference the latest US Department of Education NCES list to confirm if an institution is designated as an HSI. Award Scholars are selected based on merit. Award amounts range from $5,000 to $10,000, based on demonstrated financial need. Eligibility Requirements Must be of Hispanic heritage Minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent). Currently enrolled full-time in an accredited, public or not-for-profit, four-year university that is officially designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) – as defined by the Higher Education Act of 1965. The new 2024 yearbooks are on sale for $50 at jostensyearbooks.com. This is the best price all year. If you add a personalized name on the yearbook cover for $7, you can get 3 icons for free. There are paper order forms at the schools if you don't want to order online. Also, spring yearbook pages are available for pickup. If you bought a yearbook last year, these spring pages go in that yearbook. All spring pages are at your student's school and will be handed out as soon as possible.
