Fisher House Scholarships for Military Children The Scholarships for Military Children Program was created to recognize the contributions of military families to the readiness of the fighting force and to celebrate the role of the commissary in the military family community. Applicants must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate program. High school applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and college applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Students will be asked to write a short 500-word essay as well as submit transcripts and validation of military dependency. EngineerGirl Writing Contest EngineerGirl is offering a scholarship to young girls who want to pursue engineering. The 2021 contest invites students to submit a piece of writing that salutes engineering’s role in meeting and defeating the challenges presented by COVID-19. There are three categories based on grade level, each with its own eligibility requirements. Each category will celebrate their own winners. Students can participate if they are within grades 3-12. Annual DNA Day Essay Contest The American Society of Human Genetics celebrates National DNA Day, which commemorates the completion of the Human Genome Project in April 2003 and the discovery of the double helix of DNA in 1953. The Annual DNA Day Essay Contest is open to students in grades 9 through 12 worldwide. Applicants are asked to submit an essay answering the following prompt: Ancestry testing is a form of direct-to-consumer genetic testing designed to inform customers about their genetic ancestry. There are generally three types of ancestry testing: Y chromosome testing, mitochondrial DNA testing, and autosomal DNA testing. If a person did all three ancestry tests, what types of information could they learn about their genetic ancestry and how does this genetic ancestry information compare and contrast with their cultural heritage (family traditions, etc.)? Microsoft disAbility Scholarship Microsoft’s disAbility employee resource group represents employees with conditions such as hearing loss, blindness, mobility disabilities and dyslexia. They collaborate with product teams to design, develop and build accessible, inclusive products. They also seek to empower and enable high school seniors with disabilities, assisting them in targeting a career in the technology industry. The scholarship is renewable for up to 4 years. Students must submit 3 essays answering the following prompts: 1. Describe how you plan to be engaged in the technology industry or technology law or policy in your career. 2. Share your vision of how Microsoft can innovate its future devices and services solutions to creatively and successfully support those living with disabilities in the workplace and in daily life to reach their potential. 3. Foster Care to Success Scholarship Foster Care to Success is a college fund for foster youth that provides annual scholarships to support students seeking additional education. A variety of undergraduate scholarships are offered to students who have been accepted into or expect to be accepted into an accredited, Pell-eligible college or other postsecondary school. These scholarships can be renewable for up to five years if the student remains compliant with the program requirements. National Air Transportation Association Richard L. Taylor Flight Scholarship Richard Taylor was a 22-year member of the Aviation Department at Ohio State University. For 7 of those years, he held the position of Director of Flight Operations and Education. Professor Taylor was also an award-winning author who helped foster opportunities for aviation students as they pursuedheir careers as professional pilots. His influence continues to extend to future pilots through the Richard L. Taylor Flight Training Scholarship. To qualify, students must be a senior in high school and be enrolled to attend a flight program through an accredited college or university. Applicants must also have a private pilot’s license. One Little PersonScholarship The One Little Person Scholarship is intended to highlight the importance of one individual on the life of a student. Applicants will submit a personal statement describing the “one little person” in their life and how they were influential. The statement should also answer “why you chose your specific major” and “what you plan to do to change the world.” The scholarship is open to Oklahoma graduating high schoolers or undergraduate students of African American descent. Society of Exploration Geophysicists Scholarship SEG encourages the study of geophysics and related geosciences through the generosity of donors such as Anadarka, Chevron and Equinor. Funds may be applied to tuition, books and fees and awarded based on merit. To qualify, applicants must either be a high school senior, undergraduate or graduate student. Students must also intend to pursue a college curriculum directed toward a career in applied geophysics. Students from all over the world have been recipients of this scholarship. Shell Scholarships for High School Seniors Graduating high school seniors who have an interest in the energy industry and have demonstrated an aptitude in mathematics and science may qualify to receive either the Shell Oil Company Technical Scholarship or the Shell Incentive Fund Scholarship. After completing one successful year of studies, recipients may be eligible to apply for a four-year renewable award of $5,000.
